Why Inspiring STARS?

What I observed as a school district administrator and high school principal, and what I confirmed through my work as an executive director and school support officer, is that there is a desperate need for inspired leadership at a different level not typically found in organizations. In particular, there is a quiet plea for leadership coaching from people who desire to be equipped and supported in addition to being supervised or evaluated. There is a need for one-on-one coaching with a trusting colleague and a small leadership group of professionals who also want to devote time to share successes and struggles to help build leadership capacity in areas leaders are lacking. There is a need for motivational talks and inspiring moments of hope, courage, and possibility.
Leadership development is something I am passionate about...and it is still necessary in my own journey to becoming an effective leader. Reading leadership books and articles, being mentored by other leaders who are invested in me, being coached with guidance, wisdom, and understanding, having opportunities to be trained in specific leadership areas, discussing leadership successes and challenges with colleagues, and being supported by successful leaders who are courageous and caring enough to point out to me potential pitfalls along the way, are the very gifts that empower and inspire me to want to improve throughout my life. Realizing all of the leadership answers are not inside of me and recognizing the missing ones are in others, has inspired this idea of bringing people together to form a professional learning community of leaders. The opportunity to "re-gift" those developmental lessons and inspirational moments has the great potential to build a culture of meaningful leadership capacity in others.
I believe leadership development is a continuous journey of growing, risk-taking, and connecting with others who share the same passion for leading and learning. It is a journey of self-discovery and awareness; it is a balancing act of simultaneously enjoying the full deployment of one’s talents and abilities that ignites high performance, while embracing the battering waves of disappointment and turbulent experiences. The paradoxical nature of leadership has the great potential for enlarging the capacity of a leader and her team with winning beliefs and strategies, or diminishing the perceived value of her team. It is the tremendous growth that comes with implementation of winning beliefs and strategies that is my passion and focus.
The name Inspiring STARS and the logo came from the idea that even star leaders need rejuvenation and re-building. As a beach lover and shell hunter, I am reminded of the miraculous healing and re-building that takes place once a starfish is wounded or experiences the loss of an arm. The power of the starfish has the ability to regenerate an arm....to reinvent itself and recover from the loss. Leaders, too, need regeneration and rejuvenation. Coaching current and aspiring leaders to become transformational leaders is at the heart of my business.
